After its shaky launch and hasty promises, Square Enix has announced that they are doing a reboot of-sorts with Final Fantasy XIV. It’s now got the subtitle: A Realm Reborn, but the game itself has been rebuilt from the ground up, and centers on the theme of rebirth.

Naoki Yoshida, the producer and director of the game said the following:

“Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new FINAL FANTASY XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the FINAL FANTASY series. I hope you’re looking forward to it!”

Square Enix has also put up a few websites for players to check out. There’s http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/ which currently offers some backstory, but will soon be the central location for further news and updates.
