Talk about being strategic: Today, Microsoft announced during their Gamescom presentation that Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix’s upcoming sequel to Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, will be an Xbox One exclusive.
Cue the shattering of hearts from the PC and Playstation community.
Darrell Gallagher, Head of Studios of Crystal Dynamics, did little to quell the hurt fans that might miss out on the game, posting an update on the official Tomb Raider tumblr, saying that “This doesn’t mean that [Crystal Dynamics is] walking away from [their] fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC,” due to Lara Croft and the Temple of Orisis releasing soon, and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition being already available on the PS4.
It’s not walking away, but it sure is depriving gamers of the latest Tomb Raider.
Still, it’s a smart move on Microsoft’s part, adding a powerhouse title to the list of exclusives for the Xbox One and forcing gamers to switch if they want to experience the new chapter in Lara’s story.
We’ll see how it develops in the coming weeks.
